Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to identify the cultural and ideological adoptions that have probably been made by some female television viewers who live within the Metropolitan area of Monterrey, Mexico, after being exposed to the medical television show Grey’s Anatomy (Seasons 1 and 2). This is an explorative study which’s methodological design is qualitative, specifically through case studies and deep interviews that were made to five women, who were divided into two age ranges: 22 to 25 and 33 to 37 years old. It was found that the interviewees, instead of interiorizing directly what was shown by the television, they tend to search information that they qualify as trustable and also evoke past experiences to put side by side them later with what they have watched; this way, they build their own structure of reality. It was also identified that this five television viewers consume Grey’s Anatomy because it entertains them, pointing out that there’s no learning process taking place while they are watching it.
