Abstract

Romantic jealousy is related to interpersonal rivalry over a relationship that is threatened by the presence of a third party. This emotion is not experienced as a closed category, but is expressed as a set of emotions. The aim of this research is to understand the emotions linked to romantic jealousy, caused by young people's use of Facebook. This was a qualitatively designed research, in which 90 young people, of both sexes, between 18 and 30 years of age were interviewed. The results show that jealousy is experienced along with fear, anger, lack of confidence, insecurity, sadness and disappointment. Besides, it is concluded that Facebook, with its invitation to register and publish daily life, communicate with strangers and express interests and emotions,fuels jealousy in couple relationships that are constituted with a strong control component among its members.
